In February of this year, an elderly woman accidentally struck a teacher and a 9-year-old girl and then collided with the Waterloo school. High school students Chandler Cole and Dacota George witnessed the accident and rushed to the scene.


Authorities search for escaped inmate

FLORENCE–Authorities are actively searching for an escaped inmate.

Around 9:22p last night Christopher Wayne Kilpatrick, W/M, 43, escaped from the Lauderdale County Detention Center. Kilpatrick was being held without bond and was awaiting trial for the attempted murder of a Florence Police Officer.


Colbert County Man Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Shipping Meth Via U.S. Mail

BIRMINGHAM – A federal judge today sentenced a Colbert County man to more than eight years in prison for drug distribution that included an attempt to ship methamphetamine from Los Angeles to the Colbert County town of Leighton using the U.S. Mail, federal officials announced.


Sheffield man dies in crash

A two-vehicle crash at 5:25 p.m. Friday, March 31, has claimed the life of a Sheffield man. Mark Edward Horton, 45, was killed when the 1986 Mazda B2000 he was driving collided with a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Hallie Carlita Cravens, 29, of Florence.
