Downtown Florence is hosting it’s 29th annual Renaissance Faire at the majestic Wilson Park on October 28th-29th. The whole park is transformed into a medieval village. This two day event attracts people from all over to participate in the history of the Renaissance.
POLICE CONDUCT DEATH INVESTIGATION AFTER BODY FOUND ON PORCH
Authorities are conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead on the porch of a home on Sherrod Avenue.
According to Florence Police, dispatch received a call at approximately 7:30 AM Monday about a person asleep or passed out on the caller’s front porch.
ANIMAL CONTROL FILES SUIT IN COLBERT DISTRICT COURT SEEKING TO COMPEL ANIMAL ABUSE SUSPECT CATLEDGE TO PAY FOR HOUSING AND CARE OF CONFISCATED DOGS
On Thursday, Colbert, animal services filed a petition for a hearing in Colbert County District Court through their attorney, James Marks, against Debra Jane Catledge, 63, who was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after authorities, found 28 dead horses and over 20 living and malnourished horses along with 45 dogs in various states of malnutrition with severely matted hair. That lawsuit seeks to have Catledge pay for housing and caring of the impounded dogs.
Alabama has had its share of what I call “run for the fun of it” candidates. The most colorful of all these perennial “also ran” candidates was Ralph “Shorty” Price. He ran for governor every time. His slogan was “Smoke Tampa Nugget cigars, drink Budweiser beer and vote for Shorty Price.”
QUICK ACTION BY FIREFIGHTERS PREVENTS SPREAD OF APARTMENT FIRE
On Saturday, the Muscle Shoals Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at Williamsburg Apartments in Station One’s district. Thanks to quick response times, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent any further damage to surrounding units. There were no injuries reported but a pet died in the incident. This according to Fire Chief Shawn Malone.

AUTHORITIES RELEASE NAME OF DECEASED PEDESTRIAN HIT BY TRAIN
Authorities have released the name of the man who succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a train last Thursday at the Montgomery Avenue and 1st Street rail crossing.
According to Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque, Brian Eugene Wellington, 41, was fatally struck by a coal train that was reportedly traveling eastward.
Wellington succumbed to his injuries at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence at 1:37 pm. This according to Sheffield Police Chief Ricky Terry.
“The call came in at around 12:55 pm,” said Chief Terry.
After first responders left the scene, normal traffic resumed at around 2 pm.

FLORENCE MAN ARRESTED AFTER USING CHILD AS A HUMAN SHIELD
On Saturday, at approximately 3 PM, Florence Police Officers responded to the 1900 block of Holiday Drive to a domestic violence call. The complainant advised she, and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight. The boyfriend, Christopher Borquez had left with their child. Borquez returned to the residence with the child while an officer was on scene.
Rick Revel, though a native of Paris, TN, has a prominent place in The Shoals area. His newest song release, “That Muscle Shoals Sound”, features the iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, his incredible journey, and the admiration he had for Jimmy Johnson and The Swampers.

Florence police released information on one of their social media accounts concerning the arrest of one of their officers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023, at approximately 7:30pm, where Florence Police Officer Javen Tyrese Pillar, 24, was involved in a domestic incident resulting in his arrest.

Florence Police Department arrested Malcolm Allen Monday after he allegedly assaulted his mother with a hammer before setting fire to the apartment they were in.
Malcolm Allen, 39, is charged with second-degree domestic violence and arson at an apartment complex on Darby Drive in Florence.
A Barton woman arrested on Sunday for multiple counts of animal cruelty was re-arrested on Tuesday evening. According to Colbert county sheriff Eric Balentine, Debra Jane Catledge, 63, of 13330 US Hwy 72 in Barton, was rearrested around 7:30 pm for failing to burn or bury dead animals.

An accused murderer and drug trafficker that was arrested last week by drug agents has had more charges added. This time the charge is for child abuse.
