Friend, not Frank, the name the rescue operation gave him

Friend, not Frank, the name the rescue operation gave him

“Friend” is a reddish-brown submarine of a dog not unlike a cross between a miniature Jersey cow and tan Easter Bunny. His extra long hash-brown colored ears, silkier than satin, frame his stoic, bovine face. Friend cuts an imposing figure based on bulk — but he’s a gentle giant — and that’s why my wife and I decided to call him “Friend” not “Frank,” as he was named by the rescue organization from which we adopted him. OP-ED: Alabama tilts the advantage in executions in favor of prosecutors

Alabama's Death Chamber

Alabama’s Death Chamber

Only law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and members of the media can have phones, paper, pens or pencils handy when Alabama executes one of its prisoners.

The people who need them the most: Capital defense lawyers charged with the macabre – but honorable-beyond-belief duty – of having to document their clients’ last moments (clients they’ve represented for years, and in some instances, decades) while zealously protecting their constitutional right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment.
