Jared Matthew Mothershed, age 27, of Muscle Shoals, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Oct. 29, 2016. The family will receive friends today, Oct. 31, 2016, from 1 to 4 at Underwood Baptist Church, Petersville. A celebration of Jared’s life will begin at 4 p.m. at the church with a private burial for family only, to follow at Stoney Point Cemetery. Brother Tom Phillips, Johnell Jones and Darrell Higgins will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Brooks Canup, Shade Butler, Chris McDougal, Chris Gunn, Corbette Davis, Levi Gilley, Malachi Cole and Zach Cole.
Jared was born in Florence, Alabama on Feb. 9, 1989. He graduated from Deshler High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from the University of North Alabama. Jared was an outstanding athlete at Deshler High School in baseball and football. After graduation he attended NWSCC where he played 2 years of college baseball and made Jr. College All-American his sophomore year. He played his last 2 years at UNA where he started at centerfield. Jared had a passion for coaching, teaching, hunting, and working out. Jared was an inspirational teacher, head baseball coach, and assistant football coach at Sheffield High School. He was also a mentor to many students. He strived for excellence in everything he did and he pushed his students to do the same.
Jared was married to Sara Knight Mothershed on April 7, 2012; they were married for 4 wonderful years, and 4 months ago they welcomed their first child, a son, Knight Jacob. Jared was a devoted husband and father.
Jared is preceded in death by grandmother, Betsy Johnson and great-grandfather Charles West. Along with his wife, Sara and son, Knight, Jared is survived by his mother, Alana Parker and husband, Don; father, John Mothershed and wife, Suzanne; brother, Brooks Canup; sisters, Emily Mothershed and Brylee Canup; father and mother-in-law, Stan and Louisa Knight; sister-in-law, Lauren Butler (Shade); nieces and nephews, Brayden Smith, Bay and Lake Butler; grandparents, Luke and Leigh Gargis, Gene and Janie Morris, Gary Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Agnes West, and Charles and Lilia Mothershed. He was also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
