WILLIS PLEASED WITH RUNNING TEST RESULTS

FLORENCE, Ala. — University of North Alabama Head Football Coach Chris Willis said he was pleased with what he saw on Tuesday from his more than 100 student-athletes that took part in the team’s running test prior to the start of fall practice.

“Overall I was pretty pleased and thought we looked good,” Willis said. “You always expect that some guys are going to fade later in the drill but even the guys who were fading kept competing to get it done.”

Willis said the running test is not a punishment or a test to see who makes the team, but instead it gives the coaches a chance to assess where the players are at physically, prior to the start of practice. Continue reading WILLIS PLEASED WITH RUNNING TEST RESULTS

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals on Friday upheld the murder conviction of Shannon Ray Johnson. Johnson, 48, was convicted in Lauderdale County Circuit Court in January 2017 for the murder of Keith Barnett, 22.

Evidence presented at trial stated that between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on July 29-30, 2000, Johnson was across the road from the Little Sands Club, near Iron City, Tennessee, taking cocaine while his brother Shawn Johnson was at the club. Around 1:00 a.m., the two brothers met in the parking lot to take cocaine. At that point, the victim, Keith Barnett approached them and got into a verbal confrontation with Shawn Johnson. The two brothers then proceeded to beat Barnett with their fists and a baseball bat until Barnett was unconscious. The two then put Barnett into the cab of Shawn Johnson’s truck and drove down Chisholm Highway toward Alabama. After they crossed into Lauderdale County, they placed Barnett into the roadway of Alabama 17. Barnett was later found in the road severely injured and was transported to a local hospital and subsequently transferred to other medical facilities for treatment before he eventually died from “multiple cranial cerebral trauma” on September 21. A happy pet is a hydrated pet

(BPT) – It’s a warm summer day – the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the scent of blooming flowers fills the air. As a pet owner, you’re probably planning to take your dog on a walk, maybe even several. Meanwhile, your cat has found that sunny space underneath the windowsill.

Sound familiar?

If so, then you already know how much cats and dogs enjoy basking in the sun, but just like people, over-exposure to heat can cause our furry friends to become varied versions of themselves. And too often signs of dehydration, which frequently appear in the form of lethargy, dry mouth and loss of appetite, are confused with run-of-the-mill exhaustion. Outward signs of aging in your pet and how to take action

(BPT) – It seems like just yesterday you brought her home and made her a part of the family. If you own a cat or dog, you have fond memories of your furry family member from day one.

Fast forward to today. Just like with people, age sometimes creeps up slowly on pets. Every pet is unique, so changes happen at different times. What’s more, age-related changes can be easy to miss because they appear so gradually over time.

Being aware and proactive is the best thing pet parents can do to help their pets stay healthy as they age. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends that pets have a senior screening at about age 7. This allows the veterinarian to address any current concerns or potential health risks, including nutritional considerations.
