The 2018 legislative session will be short and sweet. It is an election year. Historically, during the last year of a quadrennium, the legislature convenes early and passes the budgets, then goes home and campaigns for reelection to another four year term.
Our forefathers, who wrote our 1901 Constitution must have been thinking the same thing because they designed for the fourth year of the quadrennium legislative session to start and end early. It is set by law to begin in early January, whereas it begins in February in most years. This year’s session began January 9 and can run through April 23. The consensus is that they will adjourn sine die earlier than the April deadline. Most observers believe that they will pass the budgets and be out of Montgomery by the end of March and home campaigning by April Fools’ Day. We Christians walk by faith, not by sight. So said Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:7. Well, what did Paul mean by that? Let us break that passage down into its components. WE obviously refers to us believers; we who have been born again—Bonafide Christians, not mere church members. We must face it: Many people who have their names on the role in different denominations have never been saved. They walk by sight, and not by faith. ONLYgenuine, born-again Christians are able to walk by faith! What does walk mean? Lifestyle! We do not exercise faith once in a while, but align our every decision and action to the faith. How many church members live that kind of lifestyle?

Clarithromycin is used to treat many types of infections affecting the skin, ears, sinuses, lungs, and other parts of the body, including Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection, a type of lung infection that often affects people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). That old quote came to mind last week when 17 people were gunned down at a Florida high school. This young man who had been expelled from the school a year earlier mowed his former faculty and fellow students down. The images that came out of the massacre have the whole country in mourning. A week has almost passed and if you’re like me, still grieved for the families and students.
I can remember in the 80’s the pain and grief we felt as students at Sheffield High School when we lost two of our student body to accidents. My friends Todd Mussard, who died in a motorcycle crash, and Sharon Pace, who died in an automobile accident, were taken from us and the community as a whole. Let me tell you it hurt. So I cannot imagine the dread times 17 that must have befallen this school in Florida and that entire community. These 17 deaths were not accidents. It was cold-blooded murder. This week, the young gunman’s lawyers are trying to avoid the death penalty with a guilty plea. Will one more death help anything? Continue reading I have seen the face of the enemy it is us

I have written about the legendary capitol reporters who use to cover Goat Hill. There was Bob Ingram of the Montgomery Advertiser, Al Fox of the Birmingham News, Hugh Sparrow of the Birmingham News, Rex Thomas of the Associated Press, Don Martin of UPI and Clarke Stallworth of the Birmingham Post Herald. A young cub reporter named Jim Bennett joined the Post Herald in 1961 and later had a distinguished career in Public Service. None of these legends is any longer with us.
Today’s capitol press corps also works hard, they stick with “just the facts” by conscientious research of their stories and leave out the speculations, “what-ifs”, opinion and political slants. Continue reading Steve Flowers: “Siegelman prosecuted for political reasons”

Do you see yourself in God’s Word? Does it seem that the Bible is in one world and you are in another? Do you have a desire to experience the good stuff you read in that Book, but question if you have the right qualifications to gain those benefits? You will remember that King David, in Psalms 103:3, said plainly: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; Who forgives all of your iniquities, Who heals all of your diseases.” Was David better off than we New Testament Christians? Jesus said in Luke 7:28 that no one under the Old Covenant was greater than John the Baptizer, but that the very least disciple in God’s Kingdom (under the New Testament) is greater than he. Many obviously do not realize that we believers are under a BETTER COVENANT, that has BETTER PROMISES, because we have a BETTER MEDIATOR (Jesus Christ), and, therefore, have a BETTER INHERITANCE than those Old Covenant believers (Hebrews 1:4, 7:19, 22, 8:6, 9:23, 11:40). Bible interpretation has fragmented the church! Modern Christians are concerned about many modern problems, but questionable or contradictory interpretations seem not to be important to most of them. Please be not offended, but believers seem to walk around in a stupor. I have observed through the years that most church members fear that they might be led into heresy if they associate too closely with members of some other denomination. They do not consider the possibility that they might have already been led astray, and are themselves heretical in some of their own beliefs. Have I been called to straighten everybody out? No! But, just as a believer, I have the responsibility to both believe God’s Word, and to minister what I have learned to all who will listen.
