Body found under bridge was man who led police on high-speed chase in September

FLORENCE — (SHOALS INSIDER)- Authorities have identified the body found Friday night under the Singing River Bridge Overlook off of Helton Drive.

Police tell the Shoals Insider, the body is that of 60-year-old, James Brian Burress of Cullman County, Alabama.

Burress is originally from Vinemont, Alabama.

According to law enforcement, in September of 2015, Burress led Muscle Shoals police on a high-speed chase, eventually crashing his car on Helton Drive into a Florence police car.
The body has been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police were called to the scene Friday night when some children discovered the body around 10:30 p.m. near the bridge overlook.

Police tell the Shoals Insider preliminary autopsy results should be in this week.
