Muscle Shoals, Ala. — Northwest-Shoals Community College’s (NW-SCC) Foundation President David Muhlendorf presented a $500 check to Sheffield City Schools Superintendent, Keith Lankford, this week to help grow their Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit (DEDC) program.

According to Muhlendorf, he hopes the funds will help to offset some expenses for students interested in the DEDC program between Sheffield and NW-SCC. “I really hope this will be an encouragement for students to do well here (Sheffield High School) and there (NW-SCC) moving forward,” said Muhlendorf.

Sheffield City Schools Superintendent, Keith Lankford, is excited at the thought of growing his Dual Enrollment program and can already see how the funds could especially help students in career technical education. “Our kids that are CTE (Career Technical Education) have other costs associated with dual enrolment and I can see where this would help them,” said Lankford. “This will give them the opportunity to go and make the best of it. We are excited.”

DEDC makes up over 20% of the enrollment at NW-SCC. DEDC is offered to area high school students in 10th, 11th or 12th grade in academic and career technical fields. DEDC allows eligible high school students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.
