TVA worker electrocuted while working on panel

SHOALS INSIDER-Friends and co-workers of Wendell Smith at the TVA Wilson Dam Hydro Plant are grieving the loss of one of their own today. Smith, 51, was electrocuted while working on an electrical panel in the powerhouse around 8 a.m. on Monday.

“It was just an awful accident,” said Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley.

Utley pronounced Smith dead at the scene shortly after 9:00 am on Monday.

The Shoals Insider talked with some of Smith’s co-workers. They all conveyed, “Wendell was a good man,” and “really loved others,”.

One co-worker stated, “Wendell would give people in need the shirt off his back,” and “he had a genuine concern for others,”.

According to TVA, Smith had worked for the agency for 26 years as a hydro technician.

TVA is investigating the incident.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greenview Funeral Home.
