MONTGOMERY— Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $2,695 grant to help Colbert County Sheriff’s Office obtain new body cameras for deputies and for county jail staff.

County officials said that the cameras will be a valuable tool to document interaction between law enforcement and the public and can be used in training or as evidence in criminal cases.

Bentley notified Colbert County Commission Chairman David Black that the grant had been approved.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resources management and career development.
