Fourth man arrested in Tuscumbia murder

TUSCUMBIA-(SHOALS INSIDER)-Authorities have arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the March 1st shooting death of a Tuscumbia man, “KJ” Kijan Freeman.

Authorities tell the Shoals Insider, Devontae Bernard Bates, 20, of 106 Markate Avenue, Muscle Shoals, has been charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder.

According to court records, Bates was complicit in the murder of Freeman.

The indictment states, “Bates did agree with Thomas Hubbard, Benjamin Young and Peter Capote to commit the crime of murder,” and “Bates did set up a meeting with the intended victim, Ki-Jana Freeman, in furtherance of said crime,”

Bates is being held in the Colbert County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
