LOUISIANA MAN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE

NEWS ALERT TUSCUMBIA Authorities have confirmed to Shoals Insider that a Louisiana man is in custody in the Colbert County Jail after leading deputies on a chase that reached speeds of over 100 mph at around 9pm Monday. Jesse Juhas, 24, of Madeville, Louisiana, was arrested on Hwy 72 near Hollywood Drive in Tuscumbia. The chase began on Hwy. 43 in Muscle Shoals. AsJuhas was charged with eluding a law enforcement officer and other charges are pending. This according to law enforcement officers. He’s being held in the Colbert County Jail.

Athens man arrested for hacking SEC

WASHINGTON – Eric Council Jr., 25, of Athens, Alabama, was arrested this morning, in Athens, in connection with a January 2024 unauthorized takeover of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) X account, formerly known as Twitter, in which hackers posted a fake message from the SEC Chair that caused the value of bitcoin (BTC) to spike by $1,000. Council is expected to make an initial appearance today in the Northern District of Alabama.

Council is charged by indictment, unsealed today, with conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft and access device fraud. The arrest and the indictment were announced by United States Attorney Matthew M. Graves, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge David Geist of the Washington Field Office’s Criminal and Cyber Division, and SEC Inspector General Deborah Jeffrey.

According to the indictment, on January 9, 2024, Council conspired with others to take unauthorized control of the @SECGov X account (sometimes called the SEC’s Twitter account) and transmitted a fake post in the name of the SEC Chair, falsely announcing, in part, “Today the SEC grants approval for #Bitcoin ETFs for listing on all registered national securities exchanges.” Immediately after the tweet, the price of BTC increased by more than $1,000 per bitcoin.

Shortly after the unauthorized post, the SEC regained control over their X account and confirmed that the announcement was unauthorized and the result of a security breach. Following this corrective disclosure, the value of BTC decreased by more than $2,000 per bitcoin. (At the time, the SEC had been deliberating whether to approve exchange traded funds (ETFs) that held bitcoin.) An unauthorized actor gained control of the SEC X account through a “SIM swap.”

MUSCLE SHOALS ARREST MADE IN SATURDAY NIGHT HIT-AND-RUN IN FRONT OF COLBERT DHR

NEWS ALERT Muscle Shoals Police have made an arrest in the Saturday night hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman.On Saturday at approximately 7:35 p.m. the Muscle Shoals Police Department was dispatched to a call in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian on George Wallace Blvd between Patriots Drive and 6th St. Officers were advised the vehicle in question had left the scene.MSPD Officers arrived on scene and located a female lying on the edge of the roadway with severe trauma to her body. Jamya B Shanes, 25 of Nashville, TN, was pronounced deceased on scene by the Colbert County Coroner’s Office.Witnesses to the event told police they were walking with Shanes when a dark-colored truck struck Shanes and fled the scene. Muscle Shoals Police Officers, with the assistance of the Tuscumbia Police Department, began canvasing the area for a truck matching the description given by witnesses. During the investigation, Officers were able to obtain a better description and a license plate number for a possible vehicle involved. Shortly thereafter, Officers with both agencies arrived at an address in Tuscumbia that was learned during the investigation. At this address, Officers and Detectives located an Explorer Sport Trac with heavy damage to the front passenger side and hood. Detectives also located what appeared to be human hair on the vehicle.Officers made contact with the registered owner of the vehicle and were able to determine the individual who had been driving the vehicle. At that time, Ronald Alfred Fontaine, 74 of Tuscumbia, AL, was taken into custody and transported without incident to the Muscle Shoals Police Department. Fontaine is currently being held pending a Warrant of Arrest for charges related to Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death. Four arrested in Florence for drugs

FLORENCE, Ala — The Florence Police Department says four people were arrested Wednesday after a search of a home found fentanyl pills and methamphetamine.

FPD said 30-year-old Olivia Young, 30-year-old Jacob Austin, 48-year-old Lori Gholston and 25-year-old Evan Young, all four from Florence, for possession of a controlled substance and various other drug charges after a search on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the four were arrested after agents with the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force searched a home in the 100 block of Foy Avenue in Florence. The department said the search warrant was obtained due to what it called “drug dealing activities” by someone living at the house.

FPD said officers stopped the target of the warrant away from the house and that she was found to have fentanyl pills and meth on her person at the time. Several other people were found during the search of the house.

The department did not specify which of the people arrested was stopped away from the house and which were found inside the home during the drug task force’s search.

OREGON COUPLE ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED CHILD ABUSE

Authorities arrested a couple who were living in a tent at Alloys Park for aggravated child abuse.

On Saturday, June 17th, Deputies and Investigators with the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office were requested to respond to North Alabama Medical Center for a possible case of child abuse. This according to Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine.

“When Investigators arrived at the hospital, they found a 9 year of male child severely malnourished weighing 37 pounds. The child also had bruises on his body, blood coming from his ear, and maggots protruding from diffrent areas of his body,”

said Balentine.

“This is just heartbreaking to see children living in this type of condition in Colbert County. I want to make sure that justice is served,” said Balentine.

Authorities determined that the family was staying at the primitive campsite of Colbert Alloys camping area in a tent.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the parents were still on scene at the hospital, with two younger children with the yougest being three months old.

Colbert County DHR was notified and assisted in the investgation and took custody of the children.

Due to the severity of the 9-year-old childs condition he was transported to Children Hospital in Birmingham for further extensive treatment and evaluation.

Investigators were able to secure a search warrant for the campsite. Investigators located the tents the family were staying in for approximatly the past two weeks.

Based on the findings of the investigation Deja-Ariaha Geraldine Bankhead, 27, (mother) and Demariez Lavonski Mitchell, 28, (step-father) were arrested and placed into the Colbert County Jail for the charge of Aggravated Child Abuse 26-15-3.1.

Investigators served warrants on the two on Sunday.

The two are being held in the Colbert County Jail on a $50,000 Bond. But must first see a judge before release.

Madison County prosecutor Thomas Paul Barnett

On Saturday the Madison County District Attorney confirmed the arrest of one of the departments prosecutors for DUI.

Madison police arrested a Madison County prosecutor Thomas Paul Barnett for DUI early Saturday Morning.

Barnett is now out on a $1000 bond.

Man Arrested for Shooting Lauderdale Deputy

Timothy Murphy, 35, Lauderdale County Detention Center

On Feb. 3 of 2016 Deputy Randall McCrary was one of five deputies serving a warrant for involuntary mental commitment. The subject of the warrant, Timothy Vincent Murphy, is alleged shot McCrary. He is said to have returned fire.

People who knew Murphy say he has emotional issues.

Murphy was sent to the hospital. Today, upon his release, he was arrested for attempted murder and domestic violence.

McCrary was released after about a week in the hospital. Sources say he is doing fine.

Murphy is being held in the Lauderdale County Detentinon Center on a bond of $60,000.
