The Insider is going to highlight a local team each week throughout the playoffs. This week we will take a look at the Wilson Warriors. Wilson heads into the playoffs with a 9-1 record, ranked 7th in the state in class 4A. Wilson’s only loss was to an undefeated Rogers team that is ranked 2nd in the state in 4A. Wilson faces Cordova at home this week. Wilson will have Tucker Brown at QB. He has had an amazing year so far. He is a dual threat, passing for 2000 yards and rushing for 600. They also have senior OL/DL Dalton Elam. Elam stands 6’6″ and weighs 250 LB. He transferred from Brooks where he was a 3-year starter and part of two Region 8 championship teams. One in 4A and one in 5A. Elam has had an amazing year on offense and defense. He reeks havoc on opposing offenses helping Wilson hold opponents to 12 points a game. He had 3 sacks and a blocked punt last week against playoff contender Randolph. Wilson has not won a playoff game in 20 years. This could be the year Wilson goes deep into the playoffs.

MUSCLE SHOALS-(SHOALS INSIDER)-Muscle Shoals Athletics and students are feeling the sting today from a ruling  from the Alabama High School Athletic Association concerning recent recruitment violations.
According to the Athletic Association, Muscle Shoals has been placed on probation and is ineligible for playoffs during the 2016-2017 football season.

Another restriction placed on the school is the suspension of Assistant Coach Chris Balentine for one year.

School officials have been travelling back and forth from Montgomery for the past couple of weeks for an official investigation into allegations of improper recruiting from neighbouring high schools.

The investigation was initiated after an article appeared in a Florence newspaper, concerning a Wilson High School student, Lex Morgan.  Morgan told the Times Daily that coaches from Muscle Shoals High School had contacted he and his father about playing football for the Trojans. Sources close to the situation say Times Daily sports writer John McWilliams, whose article prompted the investigation, contacted the minor student-athlete on his cell phone without the consent of his parents or legal guardian.

It is common knowledge that former Florence High School Falcons head coach Alvin Briggs was one of the lead investigators for the AHSAA.  Sources close to Wilson High School have indicated Coach Briggs and another assistant with AHSAA attempted to interview the student-athlete, who is a minor, without contacting his parents. This attempt was thwarted  after it was exposed.  It has further been reported that the head football coach at Wilson High School was formerly an assistant under AHSAA investigator Alvin Briggs.

The student-athlete is currently enrolled at Wilson High School
