THE SHOALS-Hearts are heavy today as news spreads around the Shoals on the passing of our friend Jim “BeBop” Evans.

Evans, along with Jimmy Johnson, was one of the members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section or as they are currently known as the Swampers.

As a studio musician, Evans played with big names like Percy Sledge, Paul Anka, Delbert McClinton, and a bunch of other famous people.

Most recently Evans played percussion for Jukebox Jim, a band named after Jim Henson, a jukebox operator in the Shoals area.

Evans was well known in music circles and contributed to what is known as the Muscle Shoals Sound.

BeBop passed late Tuesday.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bebop’s friends and family. He will be missed.
