First Charles Burney, who was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, climbed through an air duct.
The duct only led to the exercise yard, though. He used a sheet to make a rope and climbed up into the air duct. When he came out in the yard he ran around the inside of the fence.
After awhile the jailers took him back to his cell. He was charged with second degree escape, which carries a lengthy jail term.
Later two more inmates, Kevin Crum and Christopher Grimes, tried to escape but through a plumbing vent. The vent was a dead end and they were caught by a jailer making the rounds when they climbed back out.
Krum was in jail for a probation violation and Grimes was in for walking away from work release. Now they have both been charged with second degree escape.
The inspection panel that allowed the inmates access to the duct work has been repaired.
