A family affair at Alabama Bliss Bistro and Boutique

MUSCLE SHOALS- Alabama Bliss Bistro and Boutique held a recent ribbon cutting to recognize their grand opening. They are located at 1206 Woodward Avenue in Muscle Shoals.

A former public library director, school library media specialist, and coffee shop owner, Miranda Ball and her husband Jason began Bliss Bistro on the Go, a lunch delivery and catering service, in July at the Shoals Entrepreneurial Center’s Culinary Kitchen. As Miranda’s business began to grow, she began looking for a place of her own.

In the meantime, she was selling boutique clothing at weekend flea markets and festivals. When the building on Woodward Avenue became available, the design lent itself to both businesses, and Alabama Bliss Bistro and Boutique was born.

Alabama Bliss strives to make its customers’ lives easier and more blissful by providing delicious, fresh made food as well as stylish, modest, and affordable clothing. The store also features jewelry, home goods, and bath and body products produced by many local artisans.

When you walk in the store, you may notice that doors are prominently featured throughout the store. Most people know the “Follow Your Bliss” part of Joseph Campbell’s quote, but the entire quote says “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where once there were only walls.” The doors in Alabama Bliss symbolize both the doors that were closed and the doors that were open to allow Miranda to follow her bliss, and she hopes that her customers are able to follow theirs as well!

The Bistro dine-in hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10-2, and the Boutique and to-go ordering hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10-6, and Saturday from 10-2. Delivery will resume in February, as well as freshly made casseroles and slow cooker meals that you can take home and cook for your family.

TUSCUMBIA-The criminal trial for the 32 year old former youth minister at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals is set to begin Monday morning in Judge Hal V. Hughston’s courtroom. Charles Kyle Adcock is accused of having sexual relations with an underage female who attended  the church.

Adcock’s family has retained high-priced Birmingham attorney Bill Clark, a past president of the Alabama State Bar and West Point graduate, to represent the former youth minister.

Adcock’s bond was revoked in September,  for working as a pastor at First Baptist Church in Bedford, Texas.

Adcock, who was initially arrested in August of 2014 on multiple rape and sodomy charges, worked at Woodward Avenue Baptist church between 2008 and 2012, when the victim was 14 years old. She is now 20.

From the motion hearings held on Wednesday in Judge Hughston’s courtroom, it is obvious Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham’s office has been preparing for this case for months. Assistant DA Angela Hulsey, who has volumes of electronic text communications between the accused and the victim, already had expert witnesses lined up for the case. It is common knowledge that Graham’s office has an excellent record prosecuting sex crimes.

In 1978, Adcock’s attorney Bill Clark wrote Plea Bargaining: A Primer for Defense Council.  Some say it may be time to dust off those old books.
