HUNTSVILLE – The University of North Alabama men’s tennis team ended the regular season with an 11-3 record after recording a 6-1 road win at Alabama A&M on Wednesday. The final tune up for the upcoming Gulf South Conference tournament gave the Lions their 10th win in their last 11 matches.

Guillaume Dechoz and Brendon Millington-Herrmann improved to 9-1 on the year at the top doubles spot with a quick 6-1 victory. Using the Division I format that awards a single point for doubles play, Max Druppel and Javier Cordero then clinched the initial point with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Miguel Garcia and Taylor Ausbon completed the doubles sweep by posting a 6-2 win at No. 2.

In singles play, Drupple again wasted little time extending the overall lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. After Dechoz post a 6-1, 7-5 win at the top spot, Garcia clinched the match, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with a win at No. 4 singles. Cordero then made it 5-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Asher Roddy took advantage of his first action of the year by recording a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles.

“It was pretty tough conditions today,” said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. “It was very windy, but we were able to handle it for the most part and find a way to win.”

UNA has already secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference tournament April 14-16 in Montgomery. The Lions will quarterfinal play at 9 a.m. on opening day against sixth-seeded Lee.
