Four football players receive degrees in special ceremony

FLORENCE, Ala. — With the University of North Alabama football team scheduled to be in Kansas City, Kan., this Saturday competing for the NCAA Division II Football National Championship, four members of the UNA football team and one athletic staff member who would have missed their commencement ceremony, scheduled for the same day, received their degrees in a special ceremony Tuesday evening at the Guillot University Center.

UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts led a graduation ceremony for football players Ryan Harper (Stephenville, Texas), Khyle Jackson (Madison, Ala.), James Rivers (Irondale, Ala.) and Josh Tate (Nashville, Tenn.), as well as administrative assistant Peggy Wingo.

The event was attended by the entire UNA football team and coaching staff, members of the UNA faculty and staff and the graduate’s family members.

The Lions departed Wednesday for the Division II Football Championship Game against Northwest Missouri State. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Park.
