UNA bestows honors on gradutes

FLORENCE – Graduating senior Nick Lang of Arab, Alabama was the recipient of the coveted Turris Fidelis Award during spring commencement Saturday at Flowers Hall on the University of North Alabama campus.

The Turris Fidelis Key – awarded on the basis of outstanding service to the university, as well as superior scholastic achievement – is awarded to up to two UNA seniors at the spring commencement ceremonies.

“This honor is the highest that can be conferred upon a graduating senior,” said David Shields, UNA’s vice president for student affairs. “Recipients are selected by a joint committee of faculty and students.”

Lang graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Lang has been accepted into the Master of Education degree program in Student Affairs at Clemson University and was awarded a graduate assistantship in Campus Activities and Events.

Recipients of the coveted Keller Key were also announced at Saturday’s commencement. The Keller Key Award is presented to the student or students with the highest grade-point average from the graduating senior class. Each recipient held a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale.

This year’s recipients include, James M. Beaver of Athens, Alabama; Nicholas E. Lang of Arab, Alabama; Kaitlyn N. Wilson of Florence, Alabama; and Tyler Yasaka of Florence, Alabama. Beaver graduated with a Bachelor of Science in History; Lang graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology; Wilson graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Professional Marketing; and Yasaka graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
