TUSCUMBIA–(SHOALS INSIDER)– Tuscumbia Police Chief held a press conference this morning to discuss the shooting at Spring Creek Apartments that left one Tuscumbia man dead and another juvenile in serious condition in Huntsville Hospital.

Logan identified the deceased as 19-year-old Kijana Freeman, who lived on Old Hwy. 20 in Tuscumbia. Chief Logan told reporters that CPR was performed on the two victims when police arrived.  One was slumped over in the car and the other was lying on the ground nearby, when first responders arrived.

“Mr. Freeman could not be revived, he had been shot multiple times,” said Logan.

“The efforts of Officer Jeremy Wear probably saved the juvenile’s life,” continued Logan.

The suspect in the shooting reportedly used an AK type assault rifle with a 7.62 mm round.

“We are acquiring tapes from some of the closed circuit security cameras in the area,” said Logan.

The juvenile in Huntsville Hospital reportedly knows more about the shooting and the suspect but was heavily sedated this morning.  The juvenile’s name was not released due to his age.

The two men were reportedly meeting someone about an X-Box at the apartments.  Police still have no description of the suspect or what role the X-box may have played. Authorities think they may have argued over the price.

The victim, K.J. Freeman, was very well liked in the community and until late 2015 worked at Muscle Shoals Foodland.  The managers tell the Insider that Mr. Freeman was a great kid and will be sorely missed.

If you or someone you know has any information about the shooting that happened around 11:00 pm Tuesday at Spring Creek Apartments, call the Tuscumbia Police Department at 256-383-3121.
