TUSCUMBIA-(SHOALS INSIDER)- This is an update to a story we first brought you Sunday morning. Authorities have identified a California man who was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross U.S 72, in front of Coldwater Inn.

According to Tuscumbia police, 31-year-old, Kenneth Reeder, of Redding California, died Saturday night at Helen Keller Hospital after he was struck by a motorist as he was attempting to cross Hwy 72.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities tell the Shoals Insider, Reeder was in town for a family reunion at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.

Police say Reeder was walking North across the highway to Coldwater Inn, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Carolyn Sullivan of Barton, who was on her way home from work.

Several of Reeder’s family members were staying at the hotel, across the street, for the reunion. Police say this created a lot of back and forth foot traffic from the hotel to the Music Hall of Fame.

Police say the accident was unavoidable and nothing the driver of the vehicle could have done to prevent the incident.
