The two groups have been working with the City of Florence for a proposed addition to the Florence City Council upcoming meeting agenda.
Under the new proclamation, April would officially be designated as “Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month” for both the City of Florence and the UNA campus.
Florence Mayor Steve Holt and UNA’s President Dr. Kenneth Kitts are scheduled to read and sign the new proclamation, April 2, at 5 p.m., in the City Hall Auditorium.
The numbers related to sexual assault and child abuse are staggering; national statistics show one in 5 women and one in 71 men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. Additionally, children are most at risk for sexual assault with one in 6 boys and one in 4 girls being assaulted before age 18.
