Suspected meth dealer in jail after chase through industrial park

FLORENCE-A quick response by the Florence police department led to the apprehension of a suspected drug dealer and a large quantity of methamphetamine is off the streets.

Late Tuesday officers with the Florence Police Department attempted to stop a small truck for traffic violations along Helton Drive. The driver, Demarcus Robinson, refused to yield and led officers on a pursuit through the Florence Industrial Park area.

Robinson was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit on Chisholm Road near Co Rd 7. Lauderdale Sheriff’s deputies also assisted in the pursuit and recovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine that the driver tossed from the vehicle during the pursuit.

Robinson is charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Improper Lane Usage, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with the intent to distribute, Carrying a pistol without a permit, and attempting to elude. He is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bond totaling $12,500.
