Hargett Receives Medal for Outstanding Service

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) Director of Safety and Security, Doug Hargett recently received the Law Enforcement Medal for Outstanding Service given by the Shoals area chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

“It is truly an honor to receive this award and to be recognized by the Sons of the American Revolution,” said Hargett. “I am passionate about law enforcement and I thank President Lee for his trust in me. It is hard to believe I have been blessed to work in my profession for 40 years.”

Chief Hargett possesses a long and distinguished record of service encompassing 40 years. After leaving the U.S. Navy, he became a Corrections Officer and Dispatcher for Colbert County in early 1976. As Hargett worked his way through the ranks in Colbert County, he served as Deputy with a special assignment to work with young people, investigator, Assistant Chief Deputy and Chief Deputy. From 1999-2003, Hargett worked for the Alabama State District Attorney’s office. In 2003, he began working as a patrol officer and criminal investigator for NW-SCC. The College later hired him as the Director of Safety and Security.

The Shoals Area Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution provides resources for the community through its youth awards programs, educational outreach, and other activities related to the history of the American Revolution.
