Foodborne outbreak puts 6 in hospital, 40 treated and released

foodborne

SHEFFIELD-State health authorities are trying to put their finger on the pathogen that has put six people in the hospital and made scores of others sick.

Officials with the Alabama Department of Public Health say they have been investigating the outbreak since Monday.  Some say people started getting sick after eating contaminated food at a weekend event where 150-200 people attended.

Health department personnel have yet to name the virus or bacteria causing the diarhea and vomiting in so many people.

Some speculate salmonella may be the culprit, as it usually causes digestive  distress.

More details as they become available.
