Couple go on spending spree with stolen card

FLORENCE–In December, officers were notified of a theft that had occurred at a residence in Glen Mary Subdivision. The complainant, an elderly female, had just been released from the hospital after a nearly month stay. The victim informed police that when she arrived home a number of items were missing, including credit cards. Detectives with the Florence Police Department began investigating the case and found 34 charges had been made to the stolen credit card during the time that the female was hospitalized. The investigation revealed that Hammond and the victim are related and evidence uncovered during the investigation led to charges being filed against Hammond and his girlfriend, Ashley Allen.

Additional charges are pending related to the theft and exploitation. “It’s unfortunate and sad that a family member took advantage of this elderly woman during her weakest moments. Unfortunately, we in law enforcement are seeing this type of situation unfold on

Sgt. Brad Holmes, a detective with the Florence Police Department, said “It’s unfortunate and sad that a family member took advantage of this elderly woman during her weakest moments,”

“Unfortunately, we in law enforcement are seeing this type of situation unfold on a much more regular bases in our community. However, with the advent of stronger laws protecting our most vulnerable citizens, we are able to hold those who chose to victimize our seniors accountable for their crimes,” said Holmes.

Hammond was released from the LCDC upon posting bond totaling $34,000.00 while Allen is still in jail on the same bail amount.
