MUSCLE SHOALS-(SHOALS INSIDER)- Muscle Shoals will have a new police chief starting September 1st.  The city council voted unanimously Thursday to give Reck the position, which pays $60,137  per year.

Reck replaces Chief Robert Evans, who retires at the end of August.

Two other employees, Captain Tommy Skipworth and Lt. Mark Goins applied for the position.  All three are highly qualified individuals. It was definitely a difficult decision according to one of the council members, who spoke on background.

Reck is the co-founder and Director of the Armor of God Project Inc. in Muscle Shoals, which provides used bullet-proof vests to underfunded police departments.

Having worked at the Sheffield Police Department prior to coming to Muscle Shoals, Chief Reck has been in law enforcement for over 28 years.

Reck is a Certified Tactical Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and Range Master.

Chief Reck’s past assignments have included 12 years on the SWAT Team as Team leader and K9 officer.

Reck also graduated of the 227th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Chief Reck and his wife Cindy live in Muscle Shoals.
