MUSCLE SHOALS — Authorities tell the Shoals Insider an inmate was found dead this morning in the Muscle Shoals City Jail.
Officials tell the Insider an investigation is underway and the inmate’s name will be released as soon as next of kin have been notified.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) usually handles the investigation when inmates die in the custody of municipal or county jails.
The man was found unresponsive Tuesday morning.
Emergency personnel were called to the jail but the male inmate could not be resuscitated.
Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley has been notified and is in route to the jail.
