ST. FLORIAN–You wouldn’t know by looking at the rural community of St. Florian that it was settled by German Catholics in the 1870’s, but it was and thousands of people flocked to the small community over the weekend to maintain the german flavor the locals truly appreciate.

There were horse-drawn wagon rides, arts and crafts, pony rides, homemade goodies, tractors and the like. It was a great family atmosphere with beautiful weather that combined to make the 14th year of the Festival a true success.

The local Med-Evac Helicopter was on hand. People got to get a close-up look at what could save their lives if they were involved in an accident.

Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Candidate Will Powell and several candidates were on hand to press the flesh and meet potential voters.  Carolyn Waterman, who is running for Lauderdale County School Board Place #2, had a booth set up to meet voters.

This year’s Oktoberfest could only be described as a wildly popular event much like Colbert County’s Helen Keller Festival.
