Future home of Academy Sports
FLORENCE-Formerly the site of Kmart, the corner of Cox Creek Parkway and Florence Boulevard will soon be home to Academy Sports + Outdoors. The Kmart building was razed to make room for the new 63,000 square foot premier sports, outdoor and lifestyle retailer. Academy Sports operates over 210 stores throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, where the company is based. The Florence location will be the company’s 15th store in the state of Alabama and is expected to create about 100 jobs.
