Traffic stop leads police to over $3 million in cash

WINFIELD – Police in Marion county stumbled upon a cache of over $3 million while searching a van on Interstate 22.

A Special Agent with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Narcotics Division, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, arrested and charged Thomas Shane Randler, 41, of Douglasville, Ga., with Receiving Stolen Property II.

Randler was taken into custody without incident when the Agent along with Officials from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the Winfield Police Department conducted a search on a Ford Express van before discovering and seizing U.S. currency totaling $3,000,767 and a stolen handgun.

The arrest was the result of a traffic stop made shortly after 3 p.m. on Interstate 22 in Marion County.

Randler was booked into the Marion County Jail.

The seizure and arrest was supported by Marion County District Attorney Jack Bostick.

The investigation is ongoing.
